Behind the Pet-Boom Scene 3

The 1st and 2nd articles introduced people who buy their pet without understanding and who sell pet without enough knowledge.
This time, the article will concentrate on “What happens to puppies that aren’t sold”.

“Leftovers”…even though dogs are living things, they still are merchandise for the pet shops. Often dogs are not sold because of variety of reasons… just like other places that sell merchandise will have the same problems…

Just like food has its expiration date, puppies are the same. The idea of thinking of them as merchandise is horrible but it is the truth.

Puppies “prime time” are 1 to 2 month old.

After a puppy reaches 3month, the shop will bring down its price and try to get it sold…
Sometimes a puppy’s price goes down more than 50%.
So what will happen to puppies that can’t find their owners?

after 3month old, puppy’s price goes down

If a puppy reaches 4 months old, he is almost worth nothing for shops….

Here are some places that leftover puppies go:
• Give away
Shops will give away puppies to friend or people who want them for free.
Or give puppies to people who want to breed dogs for very cheap prices around $100. In some cases, breeder-wanna-be’s are happy to have older puppies so they can have babies right away.

• Shelters
Bring puppies to shelters to put them to sleep. Shelters usually put around 300,000 dogs and cats to sleep a year.

• Donate to animal labs
Pharmaceutical companies and other companies that use dogs for testing will take leftover puppies.
Every medicine we use today is coming from animal sacrifices.

• Donate to animal hospitals
Veterinarians and veterinary hospitals will take puppies for testing also.
Those puppies are used for studying its body and collecting its blood for a variety of reasons.

As you can see, not may leftover puppies will survive.

Today, many pet shops are against “animal testing” however it’s not all shops agree.
It’s only rare cases but this particular shop’s owner told us that he would bring all leftover puppies to his house and take care of them. And another person told us that he can never give away puppies knowing they will be used as Guinea pigs.

None of this shop’s puppies were 4 months old

Big pet shops will send puppies to shelters right away as soon as puppies reach 4 months old.
Please don’t forget about these puppies…the truth about the pet-boom.

PS
The Chihuahua boom is growing big and fast right now. Many bad shops sell unhealthy Chihuahua puppies.
Because of the demand, they are bred so quickly that many puppies are born unhealthy.
This breed tends to have weak bones and gets sick at an early age. Many people are concerned about a puppy’s LOOK but not concerned about a puppy’s health.

Shops will never tell you if a puppy is sick unless you ask.
All they care about is to sell puppies to make money.

As the last article mentioned that you can’t return a puppy once you purchase. So it’s your responsibility when a puppy gets sick.
Because it is very expensive to treat sick puppies, many people bring them to shelters.

Pet-Boom…it is not as pleasurable as its sound.
As I have repeated many times, your pet is a living life. You can’t just replace a pet like your brand-name bags.

The word “Companion animal” almost sounds corny after these stories…
